Monday was a great day, but it flew by. It was overcast with a breeze at a comfortable temperature for working, but there was a mosquito attack. Robert says the mosquitoes at Pointe-Aux-Vieux are friendly compared to other mosquitoes in the area. It is alarming to think that there are meaner mosquitoes out there. I was working in one of two new units that were opened up around the oven feature. Shalen started digging herself into a deep hole in the middle of the oven, uncovering more and more of an impressive stone wall. Helen found a big, beautiful piece of glazed ceramic with a yellow and brown pattern that everyone was quite enamored with.
We have all been finding artefacts, and exposing more and more of the foundation and oven. As we do the bigger picture of the site develops. Monday, it was concluded, was a good day. Tuesday was also a good day. It seems to me that every day of this excavation has been a good day. Of course it is always a good day when you get to work with such a wonderful group of people. I definitely agree with Shalen when she says how she will miss our team when the excavation is over.
